Research : Top 1 Super Mario Bros

Super Mario Bros. is a Nintendo Entertainment System video game released in 1985 by Nintendo. The game, designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, has become one of the most important and successful video games of all time. The second best selling video game (succeeded solely by Wii Sports), Super Mario Bros. has found its way in the homes of over 40 million consumers. It was introduced to many Americans as an arcade title, though the home console version generated more sales. A successor to the arcade video game Mario Bros., the game was perhaps as popular as it was due to the increasing fanbase of gamers who immensely enjoyed titles like Donkey Kong and, naturally, Mario Bros. The Nintendo Entertainment System's success in America can arguably be attributed to the video game, and certainly it helped increase the sales of the Famicom in Japan.
In Super Mario Bros., the character Mario sets off on an adventure to save Princess Toadstool from King Koopa (both later renamed to Princess Peach and Bowser, respectively). Princess Toadstool is capable of reversing the black magic of King Koopa, which explains his motives for kidnapping her. King Koopa uses his magic on theMushroom Kingdom and transforms the Toads of the land into mushrooms and stones. In the multiplayer mode, the second player will take control of Mario's brother Luigi when the first player loses a life.
The game is recognized worldwide for its significant contributions to the gaming industry, particularly in America where it brought the country out of the video game decline of the eighties. Journalists' acknowledgment of its importance is evident today with the game appearing on a myriad of "best games of all time lists", gracing the top spot of Electronic Gaming Monthly and IGN's lists on numerous occasions. Its success led to the creation of several sequels, two of which are known as Super Mario Bros. 2. The Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 is known as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels in America and Europe, due to its nonappearance on the NES in those territories. Westerners, on the other hand, received their own version of Super Mario Bros. 2, which was a remake of a game titled Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic in Japan but with Mario characters.

The main series of Mario games have largely stuck to a tried-and-true formula of having Mario fighting to save damsel in distress Princess Peach, who’s been kidnapped by dastardly villain Bowser (a spiked turtle-like Koopa creature that breathes fire), and restoring order to the Mushroom Kingdom.

As the years have passed, Mario has evolved from 2D side-scroller to 3D platformer, and in addition to having his own series, he has become Nintendo’s #1 mascot (sorry, Legend of Zelda andMetroid). Mario has appeared in countless spinoffs such as the Mario Kart (racing), Super Smash Bros. (fighting), and Paper Mario (RPG) series of games. In fact, he’s so popular that even minor Mario characters have their own franchises: Evil Mario villain Wario has the Wario Land series and the micro-game WarioWare titles under his nefarious belt; Mario’s brother Luigi became a ghostbuster in Luigi’s Mansion, while Mario’s dino friend Yoshi has appeared in Yoshi’s Story and several other titles.

The whole Mario universe is also represented in the Mario Party games and in several sports titles such as Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Superstar Baseball, and Super Mario Strikers. The latest Mario release, Super Mario Galaxy 2 (the sequel to the Wii's all-time high-scoring game Super Mario Galaxy), promises more interplanetary excitement and thrills while giving Mario fans an excuse to dust off their Wii this summer after playing Mario’s last adventure New Super Mario Bros. Wii during the winter months.

It’s hard to believe that there was a time before we all knew and loved our favorite mustachioed Italian plumber, Mario. Created by famed videogame designer Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario—or Jumpman, as he was originally called—first debuted in arcades in 1981 withDonkey Kong and has since shown up in over 200 videogame titles since.

After appearing with his brother Luigi in Mario Brothers, Mario was bundled with the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in the revolutionary worldwide side-scrolling sensation Super Mario Bros.Mario and Nintendo became household names and innovators, taking over the console gaming market from previous market leader Atari and continuing to expand the Mario universe.

Research : What Happend when Recylcle

It’s important to remember the term “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” because we recycle for many reasons, such as reducing the waste that ends up in landfills and reusing resources and materials such as oil and plastic. Using recycled materials instead of raw materials can also lower energy costs for manufacturers. Some of these benefits and costs (such as transportation) are not included in the below calculations, but it is still easy to see that recycling and reusing materials is better for the environment.

Research: Korea overtake Japan in the Pop Culture War

Once, Japanese movies, videogames, and pop music were all the rage. But now, the epicenter of Asian pop culture has moved 700 miles (1000km) westward, from Japan to Korea. And no, it didn’t start with Gangnam Style. Check out this Google Trends chart, which shows the number of Google user searches for the term “K-pop” versus searches for “J-pop”, from 2004 to the present. K-pop searches began to skyrocket fully two years before Gangnam Style’s July 2012 debut:

Research : How Diners Choose Restaurant

This graph — and a fascinating article — tells the story of how diners are finding you. And if you’re interested, there is even a webinar you can attend on August 23 at 12:00PT to find out more. The bottom line: it ain’t through traditional media. It’s through friends first, then digital channels.
Which begs the question:  How can a restaurant become “friends” with all those “friends” making restaurant recommendations?

Research : Top 10 selling Mario Games

Taking a look at the top 10 bestselling Mario games as a graph really shows how popular the franchise is. If we looked at other top 10 a lot of them wouldn’t even have one game that sold as much as the 10th bestsellingMario game.

Here are other Mario sales: 12 games sold 10 million or more units and 32 sold five million or more units. 57 games sold two million or more units and 77 sold one million or more units. Also more than 500 million games have been sold for the franchise. This is more than the total number of games sold on a majority of gaming platforms.

Here is the breakdown in Mario sales by platform. 78.43 million Mario games were sold on the NES and 49.83 million were sold on the SNES. 34.46 million Mario games were sold on the Nintendo 64 and 30.08 million were sold on the GameCube. 116.40 million Mario games have been sold on the Wii to date, more than any other platform.

For the handhelds, 47.76 million Mario games were sold on the Gameboy and 33.34 million were sold on the Gameboy Advance. 89.09 million Mario games have sold on the DS to date and 21.33 million have been sold on 3DS to date.
Here is the breakdown by regions. Just over half of the total Mario games have been sold in North America, 253.24 million units or 50.5 percent of the total games sold in Mario franchise. 112.75 million Mario games have been sold in Europe which is 22.5 percent of the total games sold in Mario franchise. 109.11 million Mario games have been sold in Japan which is 21.7 percent of the total games sold in Mario franchise. The remaining sales, 26.65 million units, were sold in the remaining regions around the world.

There have been seven games released for the Mario Kart series. One has been released for every Nintendo platform, except for the NES and Gameboy. While there is none on the Wii U yet, there will be one in the future. The seven Mario Kart games have sold 93.56 million units to date or 18.6 percent of the total games sold inMario franchise.

There have been 12 Super Mario Bros. games (including the New series) released to date. Four of them have sold 10 million or more units and seven have sold five million or more units. They have sold a combined 140.42 million units to date or 28.0 percent of the total games sold in Mario franchise.

Research : World Internet Population

In 2012 the number of Internet users worldwide reached 2.27 billion, almost exactly twice what it was in 5 years ago, 1.15 billion. We all know the Internet is big, but this kind of growth really puts things into perspective. The Internet population has been swelling rapidly since the arrival of the World Wide Web (which rests firmly on top of the foundation provided by the Internet). It’s human nature to get used to changes, so most of us have a tendency to forget how rapidly the world has changed, and keeps changing.

One of the big take-aways from this chart is that Asia not only has the largest Internet population, but that it is also growing the fastest by quite some margin.
Here is how the number of Internet users has changed per world region in the past 5 years:

  • Africa has gone from 34 million to 140 million, a 317% increase.
  • Asia has gone from 418 million to over 1 billion, a 143% increase.
  • Europe has gone from 322 million to 501 million, a 56% increase.
  • The Middle East has gone from 20 to 77 million, a 294% increase.
  • North America has gone from 233 to 273 million, a 17% increase.
  • Latin America (South & Central America) has gone from 110 to 236 million, a 114% increase.
  • Oceania (including Australia) has gone from 19 to 24 million, a 27% increase.
